So having done both a BA in Medieval Studies and an MPhil in Medieval History, it's no surprise that my fantasy series Power & Empire inhabits a quasi-medieval world, because I know how that works and I hope I make it convincing for you. My other passions are for history, dogs, and music - sometimes they even all meet up! In fact feisty ladies crop up in all of my books, including my history series and mysteries, as do characters with a broad spectrum of tastes in all respects - variety is the spice of life! I love writing about people who have to make decisions in difficult situations, so in both my fantasy series I have grown-up heroes and heroines, and some of my ladies are very feisty. So, for instance, having devoured fantasy books in my teens and onwards, I now want stories with adult characters not just coming-of-age stories, and I hope there are many of you who look for them too. Having been an avid reader all my life, I now write the kind of books I would want to read. I share my home with my husband and our rescued lurchers (greyhound cross-breeds) and support some of our local animal rescue charities. I live in England, right in the middle and about as far from the sea as it's possible to get on a small island but I also have a deep love of the wilds of Scotland, so you'll get a lot of mountains and wild scenery cropping up in my work.
